Mangrove Boardwalk and Guide Scheme Launched at the Lagoon Edge

Young people from three waterfront communities have been trained as certified nature guides.

A boardwalk through mangrove stands at the Epe lagoon edge has opened alongside a guide training scheme drawing participants from three waterfront communities.

Twenty-eight young people completed certification covering bird identification, safety on the water and visitor handling.

Conservationists say the mangroves buffer the shoreline against erosion and nurse the juvenile fish that sustain the local catch, making protection an economic matter as much as an environmental one.

Guides earn from ticketed walks, with a share of receipts routed to a community fund for boardwalk maintenance.
