Manufacturing Spillover: Three Plants Break Ground Outside the Free Zone Fence

Suppliers priced out of zone land are building on cheaper parcels along the Epe approach.

Three manufacturing plants have broken ground on land outside the Lekki Free Zone perimeter, part of a supplier cluster forming along the Epe approach road.

The plants — packaging, industrial gases and steel fabrication — serve customers inside the zone but chose cheaper land beyond the fence.

Local government officials say the spillover raises pressure for water, power and effluent management on parcels never planned for industrial use.

Community associations have asked for an environmental monitoring arrangement before the plants reach production.
