A cold storage facility with 60 tonnes of capacity and an on-site ice plant has been commissioned at Oluwo fish market, the corridor's busiest landing point.
Traders have historically sold the day's catch at whatever price the closing hours allowed, with spoilage absorbed as a routine cost of business.
The market association will run storage on a daily-rate basis, with reduced rates for members of registered fishing cooperatives.
Association officials say the next request is a tarred access road to the landing, which floods during the rains and strands loaded vehicles.
